The Nationwide Town Hall Meeting was aimed at empowering the citizens of Ghana through the dissemination of information on major government policies, programs, activities and other social interventions. Another purpose of the Town Hall meeting is to gather feedbacks from the people in order to update national policies. The 2019 Town Hall meeting was to afford the citizenry the opportunity to ask questions and to share their opinions concerning issues in the District.
The Town Hall Meeting was organized on the 4th October, 2019 at the Presbyterian Women's College of Education (PWCE) and was attended by about 120 people. In attendance were the District Chief Executive of Akwapim South District Assembly, Hon. Frank Aidoo, the Member of Parliament, Hon. O.B. Amoah, the Coordinating Director, Mad. Lydia Akueteh, the security agencies, aspiring assembly members, representatives from the traditional council, local council of Churches, heads and staff of the various units and departments, students of Aburi Girls Secondary School, the GPRTU, Dressmakers and Hairdressers Associations, the Disability Association and some town folks.
The DCE and MP took turns to highlight the various projects going on in the district.The major government programs and policies tackled during the presentations include Education, Agriculture, Health, Social Welfare issues and NaBCo. The DCE reiterated the need for residents to get involved in such meetings to make their grievances known. The DCE and the MP said that various forums will be held in the communities to propagate the various developmental projects undertaken within the district.
The people were given the opportunity to ask questions and also to make suggestions towards the development of the municipality. The questions were answered after all the presentations were made.
The chairperson for the event praised the Assembly for the Town Hall Meeting held and concluded that the meeting had enabled them have some knowledge on projects undertaken by the Assembly and MP throughout the district and also have been educated on some government policies, programs and activities as well.
