Placeholder image Hepatitis B is the most common serious liver infection in the world, and it is caused by the hepatitis B virus that attacks and injures the liver. 28th of the month of July every year is set aside to educate the masses on what Hepatitis B is, it symptoms as well as how it can be prevented. Akuapim South Municipal Assembly joined the world in celebrating this year’s world Hepatitis Day. This year’s celebration was dubbed "Bringing Hepatitis closer to you".

The assembly collaborated with the Municipal Health Service directorate in organizing the celebration at the forecourt of the Chief palace, Ohenannim - Aburi. The celebration was graced by Mad. Lydia Akueteh, Coordinating Director and Mrs. Emily Osman, Municipal Health Service Director. In attendance were the heads and staff of the assembly, staff of KOM, staff of the Security Services, and some town folks.

The Coordinating Director in addressing the people present said, ‘We only have one liver and we need to protect it’. It is mandatory for each of us to do regular check-ups and when tested positive should seek immediate treatment. Mrs. Emily also explained the three basic types of Hepatitis; thus, Hepatitis A, B and C. ‘Hepatitis can be treated therefore, the earlier we identify it and make ourselves available for treatment’, she indicated.
