The Akuapim South Health Directorate on 31st August, 2022 held a Media Launch to mark the official commencement of the End Polio Now Vaccination Campaign.
The event took place at the Kom Clinic in Aburi. Present at the ceremony were Madam Lydia Akueteh, Municipal Coordinating Director for Akuapim South, Madam Emily Osman, the Akuapim South Municipal Health Director, Hon Seth Asare, representatives from various agencies and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as well as traditional leaders. Notable amongst the traditional leaders was Nana Afua Ankobea who served as the Chairman of the event.
In her speech, the Municipal Health Director explained the logic behind the campaign, stating that it is to protect children under 5 years from Type 2 Polio. She shed light on how the virus is spread and the life changing and threatening effects it can have on children. The Director further encouraged all present to play an active role in educating parents and care givers on the importance of having children go through all the necessary children welfare programs especially weighing and the various vaccinations.
To close the program, the Chairman and special guests were invited to demonstrate how children in the Municipal will receive their vaccination.
