Annual Performance Review of Health Issues in Akuapim South

Placeholder image The 2022 Annual Performance Review of the health directorate of the Municipality was held on Thursday 9th March, 2023 at the Presbyterian Church-Aburi. The programme started with the registration of participants and a welcome address by Mrs. Emily Osman, the Muncipal Health Director.

Key note addresses were given by the Municipal Coordinating Director and Director of NHIS from Nsawam who were invited guests.

The overview of District Performance was presented by the Health Information Officer. Discussions and reactions to key issues concerning health delivery at the sub-district level and facilities were brought to the fore.

A summary of the key district strengths were given as:
  • Improved Average revenue per OPD patient
  • Improved NHIS claims submission on time
  • Increase CYP
  • PNC within 48 hours from birth
  • Effective distribution of LLINs to children receiving MR2
  • Improve staffing of critical staff (Nurses, Midwives, PAs)
  • Implementation of monthly data validation
  • Reduction in prevalence of anaemia at 36 weeks among pregnant women
  • Reduction in still birth rate
  • Functional maternal mortality audit committe
  • Reduction in TB case facility rate
  • Increased PMTCT testing rate
  • Sustained excellent TPT among PLHIV
Also, summary of the district weaknesses that needed to be addressed included:
  • Non-capturing of district budgets of Goods and Services into PBMIS
  • Low proportion of mothers making at least 4 ANC visits
  • Low functional CHPS zones
  • Inadequate distribution of midwives and PAs
  • Low per capita OPD visits
  • Low diabetes incidence rate
  • Low hypertension incidence rate
  • Low TB case notification rate
  • Non-accreditation of health facilities by HEFRA
