On 25th April, 2024, officers of the Social Welfare and Community Dev't carried out sensitization in 7 communities on child protection, circle of support and child right issues. Child protection toolkits were used to demonstrate to the audience. A total of 582 benefitted. F = 298, M= 284.
The communities include Nsakye, Ottopayaw, Kwame Ntow, Pepawuni, Oboadaka, Attakrom-Amanfro and Aburi.
The aim of the dialogue was to galvanize support for community based structures in the municipality for effective protection of children. This formed part of activities outlined by the department to educate parents of their childrens rights and protection.
Mrs. Jessie Dzokoto made the point that, child rights protection and resilience to shocks are achievable through the development of the role of key community members. This, she explained will help in the delivery and improvement of initiatives meant to change children’s plight. She appealed to parents to build stronger communication relations with children as this will allow them to freely share problems with parents at all times.
Mr. Abass Nasir Abdul, an officer of the Social Welfare and Community Development called on NGOs, CSOs, traditional leaders to enhance the significance of child protection in their various communities.
