AKUAPIM SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY  coat of arms

Akuapim South Assembly Elects Presiding Member

2024 pm_elect The Inauguration of the Fifth (5th) Assembly of the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly was successfully held on Monday, 12th February, 2024 at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly. The event was graced and chaired by Otobuoor Djan Kwasi II, Prof. Kenneth Attafuah, a representative of the president, the Judge of the District Court, Hon. Frank Aidoo, the MCE, Ms. Lydia Akueteh (Mun. co-ord. Director), Dept. and Unit Heads of the Assembly and many others.

Prof. Kenneth Attafuah read the Presidents statement after which the District Judge swore-in all the Assembly Members and meeting transitioned into electing of the Presiding Member (PM). The District Office of the Electoral Commission took charge of the election. Two contestants namely Hon. Blessing Tretsu and Hon. Michael Ahwereng (the former PM) contested. The former picked number one and later number two for the positions on the ballot paper. The election had to go for a second round as the quota two-thirds needed to elect a Presiding Member could not be attained.

After the first round Hon. Blesing Tretsu polled 15 votes whiles Hon. Michael Ahwerend polled 23 votes and one rejected ballot. This called for further lobbying and discussions to make sure a PM is elected to avoid postponing the elections.

The second round round of elections results were as follows:
Hon. Blessing Tretsu - 9 votes
Hon. Michael Aherend - 29 votes
Rejected - 1

The District Judge swore the Elected Prisiding member into office after which the MCE gave his closing remarks and the inaugration was brought to an end.
