As part of efforts to improve the academic performance of students in the municipality, the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly allocated funds to support both public and private basic schools to organise mock examinations for all final-year students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In line with this initiative, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Paul Osae Offei, together with his entourage, paid a monitoring visit on 25th March, 2026 to selected schools in the municipality. The schools visited included Ahwerase M/A Basic School (38 candidates), Nsaba M/A Basic School (72 candidates), and Nsakye M/A Basic School (32 candidates).
Upon arrival, the headteachers of the respective schools welcomed the team and led them around the examination centres to observe the ongoing mock examinations.
During the visit, the MCE, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, explained the purpose of the monitoring exercise. He noted that the visit was to assess how the mock examinations were being conducted and to officially inform the teachers about plans to organise a seminar for both BECE candidates and teachers. The seminar, he explained, would provide an opportunity to discuss challenges encountered during the mock examinations and to develop strategies for improving teaching and learning in the municipality.
The MCE commended the teachers for their dedication and commitment to improving educational outcomes in the municipality. He presented the teachers with a token for lunch, promised scholarships for the best-performing candidates, and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to supplying additional furniture to the schools by the next academic term.
The Municipal Education Director (MED), Mrs. Elizabeth Afriyie, encouraged the teachers not to let the Assembly’s investment go to waste, but rather to ensure positive outcomes from it. She tasked them to teach students how to answer critical thinking questions and to continue solving past questions with them.
The visit was a real boost for everyone involved. It showed the Assembly’s genuine commitment to supporting education in the municipality. Teachers felt appreciated and motivated, while students could see that serious efforts are being made to help them succeed in the BECE.
