AKUAPIM SOUTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY  coat of arms

MCE Visit to Abandoned Pack House at Mariakrom

2026 PackHouse Visit As part of the Municipal Chief Executive’s reset agenda for the municipality, Hon. Paul Osae Offei paid a working visit to an abandoned pack house at Mariakrom on 27th March 2026. The project, which was funded by the United States of America through the Millennium Challenge Corporation under the Millennium Challenge Account, was designed to support farmers within the municipality and the country to export their products to other countries.

The purpose of the visit was to inspect the current status of the pack house and assess how it is being operated.

During the visit, the leader of the farmers’ cooperative, Mr. Gator, led the Municipal Chief Executive on a tour of the facility. He later informed the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, that the pack house had halted operations for a couple of years. According to him, the project was built to support fruit outgrowers who are members of the farmers’ cooperative, as well as a former exporter named Mr. Kwabena Afari, to help them pack and export their products. The agreement stipulated that the exporter would supply 60% of the products while the farmers’ cooperative would supply 40%.

Over time, the farmers could not provide the required quantity of products, and there were inadequate funds to run the factory. As a result, operations were halted. He added that the pack house has the capacity to pack several kinds of fruits as well as yam.

Honourable Paul Osae Offei promised to invite the Head of the Cooperative and Mr. Gator, for further discussions to find a lasting solution to revive the facility and restart operations as the initiative of reviving the pack house will create much-needed jobs for the people in the municipality and boost agricultural exports.
