LEAP is one of the social intervention programmes under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. It is a cash transfer programme for the poorest households in Ghana.

LEAP household contains at least one of the following disadvantaged members;
  • Aged 65years and above without support
  • Orphans and Vulnerable Children who are below 18 years without support
  • Severe Disabled Persons with no economic capacities

Payment is done bi-monthly to these households with the collaboration of a Participating Financial Institution (PFI) – Akwapim Rural Bank in a community Pay points. Caregivers receive the cash on behalf of these disadvantage members in a household. The Akwapim South Municipal currently has Five Hundred and Twenty-Two (522) households in twenty (26) communities.

A one-week sensitization and training of the LEAP program on beneficiary charter of rights and responsibilities was embarked on from the 14th to 18th of September, 2020, at two selected villages in the Akuapim South Municipality. These villages were Pakro and Pokrom. They were selected for the significant number of beneficiaries they have in municipality.

This program was held in collaboration with the Municipal Social Welfare and Community Development (MSWCD), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Information Services Department (ISD) together with the Belong Foundation of Ghana.

The main purpose of the sensitization was to educate the LEAP beneficiaries on their rights and responsibilities. Also the communities were educated on these rights and responsibilities in order to be well informed about LEAP and not to have any misconceptions.
