As part of the president’s tour in the Eastern Region, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a visit to the Akuapim South Municipality on the 6th of October, 2021. The visit was to thank the people of Akuapim - Anafo for massive votes in the 2020 December polls and familiarize himself with the ongoing works at the Municipal Hospital, KOM.
The municipality was graced with the presence of the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by Hon. Osarfo Marfo, Senior Minister, Hon Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, Minister of Trade and Industries, Seth Kwame Acheampong, Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Kingston Akomeng, Deputy Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Hon. Kwadjo Oppong Nkurumah, Minister of Information, Hon. Kofi Baafi, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Kwaku Botwe, Minister of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD)Nana Kofi Hanson, Eastern Regional Representative of the Council of State, Mawusi Aduti, Executive Director NVTI, Hon. Steven Pambin Jalula, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Fawas Aliu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Mrs. Efia Akoto, Deputy Chief Executive Director MASLOC.
In attendance were, Otooboa Djan Kwasi II, Aburihene and Adontenhene of the Akuapim Traditional Council and his elders, Hon. O. B. Amoah, who double as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapim South Constituency and Senior Deputy Minister for MLGDRD, Hon. Frank Aidoo, Municipal Cordinating Director, Madame Lydia Akuetey, Hon. Michael Ahwireng, Presiding Member, MCE, Assembly Members, the various Heads of Departments/Units and staff, Heads of second cycle institutions, Traditional Council, Local Council of Churches, the Security Agencies, NPP Party members, media, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and some town folks.
Otoobour Nana Djan Kwasi II welcomed and exchanged pleasantries with the President. Nana thanked the President and touted some of the President’s achievements in the Municipality. Some of these are: the completion of the Municipal Education Office, pipeline projects, completion of the modern market and the elevation of Akuapim South District to a Municipality. He also expressed his believe in the President to accomplish the various projects which were stated in his first term. Otoobour made a passionate appeal to the President on helping to lift the Aburi Botanical Gardens to a world-class garden to help in the generation of revenue for the country at large. Some major roads such as the Kwabenya – Berekusu - Kitase road were touched on.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in-turn thanked the chiefs and people of Akuapim for their support for him to rise on the wings of power again. He promised to deliver most of the request made by the Otoobour to the betterment of Okuapimmang and the people of Ghana as a whole. He indicated that the Aburi Botanical Gardens is dear to him and as such will be part of the budget hearing scheduled for this November as assured by the Minister of Finance. He also assured that the Ministry of Trade and Industry will facilitate the completing of the pineapple factory as part of the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative to boost revenue generation and create employment for the youth as well. He asked Otoobour to help in settling the chieftaincy dispute that has engulfed the Okuapimang Stool, stating other chieftaincy disputes that have been settled under his watch.
